Peirasmos. - A sermon based on Matthew 4:1-10

Peirasmos. This is the Greek word that we translate as “temptation” when we read the 6th and 7th petitions in the Lord’s prayer. “Lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil”. Lead us not into peirasmos.
Seems like a weird prayer. The 7th petition makes complete sense: “Deliver us from evil.” But“lead us not into (peirasmos) temptation”? That one can trouble us. Why does Jesus teach us to pray that? Why do we have to pray that? It doesn’t seem to make sense to have to pray to God and ask Him not to lead us into temptation. I mean, isn’t that a given? Why would He do that?
